Dave is taking on this role part-time alongside his position as Reader at the School of Physics and Astronomy.
As CSO, Dave will work closely with the ECFP core team, overseeing the scientific output of our projects and ensuring it is of the highest quality. Dave has experience with a broad range of academic and commercial soft matter systems including the behaviour of fire-fighting foams, the drying of blood droplets, optimising the use of magnetic stirrers for dissolving polymer solutions and identifying the best way to cook pasta.
Since moving to Edinburgh in 2023, Dave has contributed vastly to the ECFP team and the School of Physics and Astronomy. Our labs have been smelling wonderful from his research studies on ouzo and how it forms emulsions spontaneously, using the Isothermal Calorimeter. He has led the installation of our Optical Coherence Tomographer (OCT) which adds to our suite of imaging capabilities. OCT has been demonstrated as a non invasive imaging technique to view the retina at the back of our eyes as well as the structure of the upper layers of our skin. Further, Dave has supervised various ECFP-led projects involving non-alcoholic drinks, extrusion of candies and settling behaviour. We are very excited to be working more closely with Dave on more projects moving forwards!
