Naomi has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Sheffield on the optimisation of hard surface cleaning formulations in collaboration with SC Johnson, manufacturer of household cleaning products such as Mr Muscle. As part of the CDT in polymers, colloids and soft matter her work focused on optimisation of surfactant mixtures and investigation of how these solutions remove kitchen soils from surfaces.
Naomi joined an agritech start-up, SilviBio, formulating novel hydrogel seed coatings for increasing seedling survival in drought conditions, using biobased polymeric materials, and subsequently developing processes for scaling up production. Her next role was as a formulation scientist at the University of Glasgow spin-out, Solasta Bio. She developed novel formulations for peptide-based insecticides and methods for analysing their mode of action.
Naomi is currently working on a project to advance the commercialisation of DAINtech, Dispersions Arrested In Nematic [liquid crystal] Technology. DAINTech is an innovative new gel phase formulation chassis technology that provides long-term stability and unique, advantageous flow characteristics.
