ECFP is a unique grouping of physicists, engineers, biologists and chemists working to facilitate bi-directional knowledge exchange. Founded in 2012 with the vision of changing the way industry and academia collaborate, the group has since worked with over 70 companies from SMEs to multinationals across a wide range of sectors including food, personal care, agrochemicals, decorative paints, and wastewater treatment.
Key to ECFP is a core team of university-employed staff who actively engage with industry to bring new fundamental questions to the academic team, and solve industry problems using cutting edge science and techniques. The core team, led by Dr Daniel Hodgson, deliver end-to-end bespoke packages for clients: speaking with industry scientists directly to diagnose challenges and co-create research projects, seeking out funding opportunities to support the work, performing experiments to deliver the agreed outcomes, and finally presenting the findings in an accessible way so industry partners can maximise their commercial impact. ECFP has worked with more than 70 companies across 12 sectors, helping to generate ≥£8.3M in value for businesses.
ECFP is looking to hire a Mobile Laboratory Technical Sales Executive. The successful candidate will drive and operate the ECFP Mobile Laboratory, working primarily with Small and Medium-sized Enterprises across Scotland and the North of England to help diagnose and solve industry challenges in the area of soft matter physics and complex fluids, including e.g., foods, beverages, construction materials, and wastewater treatment. The appointee will run and maintain the ECFP Mobile Laboratory, plan engagement campaigns based on sector needs and geographical region, demonstrating ECFP capability and working with colleagues to solve industry challenges, devise income-generating follow-on projects and impactful outcomes.
This is a fixed term appointment until 30th September 2028. The salary is on the University of Edinburgh Pay Grade UE07 (£41,064 – £48,822 per annum).
– A degree or equivalent industrial expertise in physical sciences, engineering, or a related discipline.
– A full, clean driving licence, enabling the post holder to legally drive a 3.5 tonne vehicle with manual transmission in the UK.
– Experience of technical sales or industry engagement in the context of science and technology.
– The ability to undertake day-to-day work and solve problems without close supervision, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing, to a range of audiences.
