Between the team, various talks and posters were presented across Europe and the US on our recent research in skin science and formulation characterisation.
This year, the week-long conference theme was “Technologies and Platforms for Understanding, Modeling and Intervening in Skin Barrier Function and Disorders”.
Gordon Research Conferences are renowned for their prestige and bringing together global researchers to share their latest developments in the field of skin research. It is open to a diverse range of attendees, from industrial as well as academic researchers to early career researchers. Our Chair of Formulation Science, Prof David Moore, who co-chaired this conference in 2019, was in attendance. David delivered a talk and participated in a discussion on the future of skin barrier research. The full GRC program from 2025 and all legacy conference programs are available here.
David Moore gave a talk at the one-day E2BRN meeting that preceded the ESDR conference held in Antwerp this year. David’s talk “Biophysical Studies of Stratum Corneum Lipid Organisation and Barrier Function Following Thermal Perturbation” was also presented as a poster at the ESDR conference. The E2BRN program consisted of talks in four broad sessions: Skin Microbiome, Keratinocyte Biology, Disease and Models, and the Skin Barrier.
The annual International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists Congress (IFSCC) took place on the French Rivera in Cannes this year. The keynote sessions were focussed on the most cutting-edge cosmetic research which included innovate ways to test sunscreen technologies and how AI can be applied to aid cosmetics research.
ECFP were well represented with Prof. David Moore contributing to a panel workshop titled ‘The Importance of Publishing for Industry Scientists’, where he shared his experience of publishing both in an academic and industrial settings. The panel highlighted the need for industry to publish results both for publicity but also to demonstrate integrity in findings. In the poster sessions, Dr David Crosby presented two posters showcasing the state-of-the-art capabilities at ECFP which can be applied to cosmetics. The first poster, ‘Using Cryo FIB-SEM and Confocal Microscopy to Visualise the Microstructure of Skincare Formulations’, highlighted how our microscopy suite can characterise the microstructure of a formulation and track how it changes upon drying, which was demonstrated on a commercial sunscreen. The second poster, ‘Correlating Triborheology to the Sensory Profile of Cosmetic Formulations’, showcased our bespoke rheology capabilities to link the flow properties of cosmetic products to consumer perception findings.
