Dr Simon Weir

Dr Weir is a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Edinburgh. His research has specialised in rheological methods to simplify or understand unknown complex systems; working with industry to exploit these insights in new product formulations. Previous work has been on understanding the structural components of caramel and how to predict and manipulate it through changing its ingredient composition or the cooking process. 

Dr Weir currently works with Lamellar Biomedical under a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP). This partnership allows Lamellar to test and optimise the biophysical properties of LAMELLASOME™ formulations regarding the ability to alter biological gels including CF sputum and bacterial biofilms to facilitate the delivery of pulmonary nucleic acids. This knowledge will also help advance Lamellar's development of other novel products for a range of therapeutic areas.
