Dr Jean-Christophe Denis

Jean-Christophe (JC) is the Ogden-ECFP Outreach Officer. He supports staff and students to develop, deliver and measure impact of public engagement activities in schools, in the local community and at science festivals. He works with teachers, school career services and industrial partners to support and enrich physics teaching within schools. He also develops online resources and delivers public lectures to promote the relevance of physics to many real-world applications. He also develops continual professional development learning resources and workshops for industrial employees in complex fluid physics, and helps raise awareness of the importance of physics in the workforce.

JC studied Engineering near Paris (France), before completing a PhD in Theoretical Physics at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. JC’s research was about ultra-fast energy transfer mechanisms in novel semiconductor molecular systems. JC first got involved in outreach in 2006 when he organised science events for school students from deprived areas around Paris. Then he became local Outreach Co-ordinator at the Scottish Doctoral Training Centre for Condensed Matter Physics, delivering activities in school and to the wider public. During his Postdoc he went to schools for the International Year of Light (IYL) and wrote dances to explain physics concept for the IYL Science Ceilidh.
