Deeply hot topic forthcoming for a PhD student funded by SCI

21 Dec 2015

Starting in January 2016, the Society of Chemical Industry will be funding Navneeta Katyan to seek a fundamental understanding of colloid structure under flow in liquid crystalline and lamellar systems. This is relevant to the processing of traditional formulations for topical creams and is vital the development of new techniques for formulation science. The SCI funded PhD studentship is associated with the prestigious Royal Society Industry Fellowship awarded to Dr Tiffany Wood of the Edinburgh Complex Fluids Partnership at the University of Edinburgh who will co-supervise the student alongside Mr. Colin Brown from The Mentholatum Company based in East Kilbride, the makers of the iconic product, DEEP HEAT. During the project, Navneeta will enjoy the opportunity to take lab-based findings to the company and investigate how product structure can be controlled through shear and temperature variations on a pilot plant.
